Alemais Resort '27 Runway
Australian Fashion Hits Spain with Alemais' Resort 27 Collection

While Australia is busy layering up and making the most of our winter wardrobe, homegrown fashion powerhouse Alemais has chased the sun straight to the Mediterranean, unveiling its breathtaking Resort '27 Collection on the historic island of Illa de Rei off the coast of Menorca, Spain. Following the soaring success of her first international show in Marrakech, designer Lesleigh Jermanus wanted to continue channeling that momentum into the global market, and this latest presentation did not disappoint.

The proudly Australian brand brought its unmistakable bold colours, maximalist prints, unique textures, and playful charm to the Spanish coastline. This season, the collection drew deep inspiration from the whimsical, organic ceramics of Mallorca-based artist Sophie Wahlquist. This artistic muse translated into garments that felt less like traditional resort wear and more like living, breathing sculptures.
“You look at ceramics, and they’re dry, and then they’ve got this gloss and shine and textures, which we’ve tried to emulate in the clothing,” Jermanus described in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald.
This fascinating duality between raw earth and high-shine glaze was felt in every single piece that walked down the cobblestone runway.
A Masterclass in Texture and Dimension
To emulate the tactile nature of hand-molded pottery, the collection relies heavily on three-dimensional surfaces.
The Dry and the Glossy
The juxtaposition of textures is striking. Matte, open-weave macramé and heavy-gauge knotted cotton cords, rendered in structural bucket bags and fringe-trimmed totes, nod to the rustic, "dry" elements of raw clay. In stark contrast, low-slung midi skirts and structured separates are crafted from high-gloss, oiled burgundy leather, heavily pierced with rows of polished silver metal eyelets and hoop rings that catch the Mediterranean sun like a wet glaze.
Intricate Artisan Beadwork
The collection's showstoppers feature dense, all-over micro-beads and miniature metallic sequins in earthy bronze, moss green, and burnished gold. Whether styled as a structured, cap-sleeved top or draped effortlessly over the shoulder like a glittering shawl, these pieces mimic the rough, shimmering crystallisation found in kiln-fired ceramics.
Organic Movement
Long, fluid maxi dresses feature tiers of raw-edged micro-ruffles that cascade down the body, mimicking the natural, imperfect ridges of handmade pottery and the gentle froth of the surrounding Balearic Sea.
A Sun-Drenched Palette
The colour story is a sophisticated celebration of European summer, anchoring warm, sun-baked earth tones with vibrant, unexpected bursts of primary and aquatic shades.
Earthy Anchors
Deep, luxurious shades of glossy plum, rich espresso brown, and warm ochre ground the collection, echoing the natural soil and terracotta clays of Spain.
Vivid Vacation Brights
Saturated marigold yellows, fiery tomato reds, and rich purples with contrasting crimson trims bring a joyful, maximalist energy to the line.
Coastal Infusions
Shimmering metallic chartreuse, mint green, and pale seafoam inject a fresh, cooling element, while sweeping silk duster coats and matching shorts feature panoramic, photorealistic landscape prints of lush hillsides and blooming coastal flora.

The Alemais designer describes how taking risks is the only way her brand has been able to truly grow and command the international stage, stating, "If I’m not scared by something we’re doing, we’re not evolving the brand." By creating contrast with classic holiday silhouettes, tough metal hardware, and couture-level embellishments, Jermanus has undeniably pushed the brand into an exciting new era.
